RELIABILITY:
Like the old Xsara, should prove fairly dependable but the servicing intervals must be followed and recorded.

HISTORY:
Picasso was launched in July 2000 with a choice of 1.6 and 1.8 petrol or 2.0 HDi diesel engines. There are just two equipment levels: LX has electric front windows, electrically operated and heated door mirrors, power steering, ABS, driver/ passenger /side airbags, trip computer and remote central locking. SX adds air conditioning, a single disc CD player and front fog lights. The top Exclusive models have electric mirrors, body colour exterior trim, alloy wheels, three independently sliding rear seats, refrigerated glove box.

COMMENTS:
The Scenic has been the stylish small family's vehicle of choice for a few years now and it's about time for some competition. The push-me pull-you styling of the Xsara Picasso attracts plenty of admiring glances, and it has a much friendlier face than the snarling Scenic. It's individual, it's unmistakably a Citroen, and it's an alternative to the usual choice in this market sector.
